Pallas Athene has been publishing books for 25 years, starting with travel guides and now mainly focussed on art. Most recently, David Lack’s wonderful Life of the Robin. The aim is always to make books that are approachable and intelligent, and we are great believers in illustration.

The main series is the Lives of the Artists, which brings together accounts of artist by their contemporaries – or near-contemporaries. The latest additions are Van Gogh by his sister-in-law and Julia Margaret Cameron by Virginia Woolf. Each volume has as many illustrations of the works discussed as possible, and is introduced by a leading scholar.
